Perched above Arnados, the farmhouse is conceived as a discreet architectural intervention within the Cycladic landscape, framing panoramic views of Tinos Chora while engaging with the natural slopes and textures of its surroundings. The project is rooted in the memory of an existing rural dwelling that once occupied the site. Although largely collapsed, its footprint and position within the landscape were carefully studied and became a guiding framework for the new design, ensuring continuity with the site’s architectural past.

The study was guided by the fundamental values of Cycladic design: small-scale volumes, simplicity of form, thick stone masonry, and limited openings carefully positioned to protect the interior from strong winds and intense sunlight. The building is conceived as a discreet rural dwelling that blends seamlessly into the landscape, maintaining the humble presence of a traditional farmhouse that appears almost carved into its natural surroundings.

While preserving the architectural truth of the Cyclades, the project introduces a contemporary interpretation. A deep blue color is used as a modern expression of the traditional Cycladic palette, while local Tinos marble is incorporated in small, refined details, adding texture and a sense of place without overpowering the overall simplicity.

Given the generous size of the plot, the surrounding outdoor areas play a crucial role in the daily life of the house. Multiple seating and dining areas unfold within the landscape, along with a swimming pool that frames the views and extends the living experience outdoors. These exterior spaces are designed as natural extensions of the interior, reinforcing the close relationship between architecture and environment.

Due to the compact scale of the house, the primary design objective was the optimal use of every square meter. Upon entering, the space unfolds into a small kitchen and living area, while the bedroom and bathroom are positioned toward the back, ensuring privacy and a clear spatial hierarchy. The layout emphasizes functionality, clarity, and comfort, creating an atmosphere of calm and understated elegance.

The end result is a modest yet refined residence that celebrates Cycladic heritage through contemporary sensibilities, where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously, and architecture becomes an integral part of the Tinian landscape.
